Advanced Mechatronic Technology Centre

The STC-SA Maritime Training Centre was established on 21 October 2011 and in 2018 accredited Nelson Mandela University to offer Maritime Training at our facility in Port Elizabeth. The facility was designed specifically to meet the growing demands of the Transport, Logistic and Maritime Industry whilst bridging the current gap in the market, ensuring that standards are maintained and that knowledge migration is imparted to the Sub-Sahara region of Africa.

All learning opportunities presented at the Training Centre conform to international requirements, and are regularly reviewed in order to meet the ever changing demands of the Maritime Industry.

 

MEDICAL FIRST AID incl. ELEMENTARY FIRST AID

This learning opportunity is designed for all seafarers in any capacity wishing to pursue a career at sea. 

To achieve the basic procedures in First Aid on board a vessel, the competencies as described in the STCW and SAMSA Codes respectively - in accordance with the amendments made to the SAMSA Qualifications Code. 

Duration: 4 Days

 

ELEMENTARY FIRST AID

This learning opportunity is designed for all seafarers in any capacity wishing to pursue a career at sea. 

To achieve the basic procedures in First Aid on board a vessel, the competencies as described in the STCW and SAMSA Codes respectively.

Duration: 2 Days

 

SAFETY FIMILIARISATION / PRE-SEA

The objective of Familiarisation Training is to ensure that seafarers who are going to work on a ship for the first time, know basic personal safety information that may save their lives and fellow crew members in the event of an emergency.

Duration: 2 Days

 

PERSONAL SAFETY WITH SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance with the Code of Safe Working Practices Survival at sea in the event of ship abandonment.

Minimize the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to any emergency situations on board a vessel.

Duration: 2 Days

PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES 

 

This learning opportunity is designed for all seafarers in any capacity wishing to pursue a career at sea, the competencies as described in the STCW and SAMSA Codes respectively.

Duration: 2 Days

 

COMPETENCE IN SECURITY AWARENESS

To address the day to day functions of persons required to have approved training in Security Awareness.

Complies with applicable SAMSA Code and STCW Code Table A-VI/6-1

Duration: 1 Day

 

DESIGNATED SECURITY DUTIES

To address the day to day functions of a crew member having Designated Security Duties on board Merchant vessel. Complies with applicable SAMSA Code and STCW Code Table A-VI/6-2

MARINE HIGH VOLTAGE SAFETY COURSE

The Marine High Voltage Safety Course is the first step for safe work with high voltage systems on board marine vessels and offshore installations. The course follows an interactive yet methodological approach that encourages individual and group engagement. The content focuses on current international safety standards, rules and regulations, electrical fundamentals, high voltage safety hazards and high voltage safety management procedures. Throughout the course, emphasis is continually placed upon the safety aspects of electrical work and includes recommendations on safe practices, procedures and precautions be taken to maximize the safety of personnel.

On completion of this course, delegates will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of maritime HV installations and safety working procedures. The course will provide both theoretical and practical instruction in a safe training environment.

Duration: 3 Days

 

ABLE SEAFARER ENGINE

To provide participants with the required knowledge, understanding and proficiency required to competently perform the functions of an Able Seafarer Engine rating onboard a vessel.

Duration: 3 Days
